Potluck Dinner
Future potluck dinners will have the hosting responsibilities divided between a "site host" and a "supplies host" with different volunteers each year. Since the potluck dinner was reinstated in 2010, the hosting responsibilities have generally fallen upon a member who has a flat, shaded or covered area at their residence which can accommodate tables and chairs for 40-50 people. Additionally, the cost of supplies for the dinner (plastic flatware and cups, paper goods, ice, basic drinks, etc.) has been incurred by the host.
Starting in 2014 the “site host” will provide only the location for the dinner; preferably a flat, shaded area at their residence that can accommodate tables and chairs for 40-50 people. The site host will revolve among the group of members who have an appropriate location for the dinner.
The “supplies host” will provide the paper and plastic goods, ice and basic drinks needed for the dinner and set up the site for the dinner and clean up after the event. The supplies host can individually provide the needed goods, services and equipment, and/or coordinate donations and assistance from other members, extended family of members, or their own extended family and friends. Leftover supplies from one year’s dinner will be available from the Potluck Dinner Committee to the supplies host for the following year, thus making the purchase of larger quantities of some items more practical.
This new structure will allow for a much larger group of members to host the dinner. Supplies host and site host volunteers have been secured for 2017. Volunteers for both hosting positions are needed for the following years.
NOXIOUS WEED COMMITTEE
The Committee feels it has made good headway in the last couple of years with committee members doing most of the spraying throughout the area, but the challenge is bigger than one or two people can handle in a season. The good news is the weeds on the properties that have been addressed so far have not gone to seed and those weeds are contained, but as the season progresses there are going to be some challenges.
The Committee is finding that it is not possible to get to all properties with the amount of time available, and therefore it is willing to assist any member who want to do their own spraying with the mixing of the stray and the identification of the noxious weeds. The Association has a backpack type sprayer that is kept in Tierney's garage and arrangements can be made to use it by calling Martha or Jim Tierney (970 586 1764). Click here for information on the identification and management of noxious weeds.
If you feel that you are unable to do your own spraying, the Committee will focus on these properties. The Committee will not use herbicide on any property without the permission of the owner.
