Through the years the archives of the Association have been maintained by the Historian and consist of documents, correspondence and newspaper clippings arranged by year in two large three-ring binders. Grace Pedley, the first Historian of the Association, started the collection of documents. She was succeeded by Elwood Shirling; Helen and Lyman Cass are the current Historians.
A motion passed at the 2009 annual meeting authorizing Lyman Cass to work with the Estes Park Public Library to facilitate the transfer of the historical records of the Association to the public archives at the Library. Prior to making this transfer, almost everything contained in the two large three-ring binders was digitally scanned and uploaded to the web site: over 600 documents totaling more than 4000 pages. Obviously, many of the scanned records are old and often represent a copy of a copy of the original item; photocopying technology back then was not what it is today and the paper products used were usually inferior to what is now available. Notwithstanding these limitations, most of the records are very legible, some "digital restoration" has been performed on others to improve their quality, and a few, where legibility was a serious issue, have been recreated and included along with the original item.
This is a work in progress and is incomplete for two reasons. First, many items are missing; this is known because they are referenced within other documents, or are similar to other documents that were present in a prior year. Secondly, time marches on and new records become available to the archives. Members are encouraged to forward to Harley Conner any item that reflects upon the Association, its members or the area in general. Furthermore, if you could share any of the missing items, noted as "[not available]" on the annual pages, it would be greatly appreciated.
The following links will take you to documents associated with that calendar year. Each year includes records related to meetings (usually the annual meeting and the Board of Directors meeting), correspondence, newspaper articles, and necrology of persons connected to the Association. Some years include pictures. Documents are generally described in the tone and words of the document being reviewed and passages are often quoted. Irregularities between form and practice are annotated in [italic], as well as other observations of the Editor.
The Quick Reference will help you find the decade of interest. Highlights are generally listed in the order in which they occurred during the year. All documents can be viewed/printed in Adobe Reader.
